A collaboration between Yale School of Medicine and the State of Connecticut DMHAS, the siting and form of the addition create a gateway to the School of Medicine, the Yale New Haven Hospital area, and downtown New Haven from the West. Existing street rhythms and scale of the original concrete and brick 5-story structure are extended to the west in the form of a curving loggia, which is created by the cantilevered upper stories.
Comprising 32,000 sf, the addition will accommodate clinical offices and conference facilities on the 1st and 2nd floors, and molecular and electro-physiology labs on the 3rd. An additional 16,000 sf of renovations are planned to integrate the lobby and addition around a new 3 story interior atrium.
