Philosophy

At TLBA, we approach design as a verb.  Serving our clients with integrity and professionalism, we are interested in place making.  Our success in this endeavor results from a synthesis of a client’s programmatic requirements, the setting, and construction technologies best-suited to the project’s success, into a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.  Functionalism, along with the deliberate orientation and arrangement of program elements to maximize site advantages while minimizing impact on the environment is a first priority.  Providing the visitor/user with a delightful sequence of spatial and visual experiences, together with thoughtful integration of material and form are instrumental in the successful making of place.

This approach, skillfully integrated into a client’s functional, economic and aspirational goals for the project, can yield an architecture that powerfully connects users and visitors to the setting.  The user of the space enjoys a heightened awareness of his/her surroundings, promoting a sense of well-being and increasing effectiveness in the work, study, research, discovery, athletic competition, recreation or other activity undertaken in the space.  The result, simply, is a building that integrates with its context, is sustainable and enhances the experience of those interacting with it.
