From Concept to Certification: Exploring Connecticut’s Net-Zero Energy Building Achievements

April 18th, 2025

What a fantastic "Concept to Certification: Exploring Connecticut’s Net-Zero Energy Building Achievements" program hosted by AIA Connecticut! The panel included Mike Fortuna, AIA from TLBA and Brian Wetzel, PE from Consulting Engineering Services (CES), who discussed the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Western District HQ project, highlighting many of its sustainable design features, including building orientation, massing, envelope, systems and assemblies, including a Trombe Wall. The recently occupied building is open to the public and operates free of fossil fuels and with many carbon reduction features in place. It is on track for Net-Zero status and LEED Platinum v4 certification. Valuable insights offered an inspiring view of a sustainable future.
