TLBA is collaborating with Yale’s School of Public Health to program, design and sequentially implement renovations to the Laboratory of Epidemiology and Public Health (LEPH) Building. A far-reaching program of improvements will transform the building’s infrastructure, research space, instructional areas and administrative functions in response to Yale’s 21st century Public Health vision for excellence in research and scholarship, education and service to a world-wide community. The multi-year program will completely reorganize and modernize the 120,000 square foot facility.
First in the sequence of construction was the 10,000 sf BSL-3 select-agent-capable containment lab. Located on the building’s top floor, it passed commissioning and validation, was brought on-line, and is now fully occupied. Complete mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and elevator infrastructure improvements to support the entire facility were completed and commissioned as an enabling project.
The 6th floor flexible open laboratory is completed and occupied. Modernizations include flex wet bench labs, extensive tissue culture space, environmental rooms, lab support, faculty offices and conference space. The project has been awarded LEED Gold certification. Swing space projects, designed to temporarily accommodate users while major renovations are underway, have been completed on a rolling basis, and will continue throughout the renovation process. The 7th floor renovation and the recently completed 5th floor renovation have also been awarded LEED Gold certification. Full renovations to floors 4 and 8 are anticipated to sequentially follow, once the 5th floor lab is fully occupied.
