TLBA has completed a number of renovations within the Freeman Athletic Center Natatorium over the past 15 years. Starting in 2006 with the structural analysis of the pool deck and replacement of the 3-meter diving platforms with new architectural concrete stands.
TLBA was most recently retained by Wesleyan University to design the first major complete renovation of the Freeman Athletic Center Natatorium since its construction 30 years ago.
The project included the repair and refurbishment of all building structures and pool finishes, replacement of the decks and the complete replacement of swimming pool systems with new state-of-the-art technologies inclusive of regenerative media filters, UV and full automation. Significant dewatering was required to implement the renovations. The project also included construction of a new non-gendered shower facility.
The project, originally planned for 2024 was accelerated to take advantage of the pandemic shutdown and celebrated it’s grand reopening in August of 2021, in time to welcome students back to campus.
